How are fiber lasers different?

There are three kinds of lasers commonly used in manufacturing: gas, crystal, and fiber. The active medium in a fiber laser is an optical fiber that has been doped with rare-earth elements. Using these elements makes it possible to create extremely high levels of energy without relying on cost-prohibitive pump sources.

  • Minimum hole size: 0.003” (0.075mm) for trepanning, 0.001 (0.025mm) for percussion drilling
  • Cutting accuracy: 0.0004” ( 0.01mm)
  • Tolerances: Most of our projects have been on +/- 1mil and 2mil without issues
  • Ability to align to fiducials or components for better accuracy
  • Ability to laser mark utilizing an attached Galvo 15”x15” working area
