Step Out of Line
A fresh canvas allows for new marks and lines. And just like making fresh tracks after new snowfall, I decided to take a fresh line in my life. In my last writing, I discussed the importance of discovering and exploring new lines in life. Every choice we make takes us on a different line, and we’ll never know the impact of that choice until we take a new line. For nearly 25 years, the physical tracks and lines in my life have stayed relatively close together because I’ve lived in the same area of the world for most of my life. So, I’ve taken a new path, and while it’s not very far away from the tracked-out lines in my life, it most definitely explores a different side of the “mountain”. In such a short time, this new line has already exposed so many junctions and tangents that I would have never found had I not taken that fresh line. I moved my line and life 60 miles south of where I grew up to The Mile-High City of Denver, Colorado. I’ve explored most of the state of Colorado, but I’ve never lived outside of Northern Colorado in my adult life. I completely understand that moving 60 miles south is not a drastic change, but the scenery is vastly different. The size and depth of the city contains many lines that I never knew existed. My shift to the “big city” has allowed me to trade the comfort of the known for the adventure of the unknown.
Transitioning to Denver has meant embracing urban energy. Northern Colorado offers small-town charm and a close-knit community, but moving to Denver opens the door to a bustling urban environment filled with diverse neighborhoods and abundance of cultural activities. From world-class museums to thriving art galleries, concert venues or Broadway shows, a big city like Denver offers a vibrant scene that embraces creativity in many forms.
Outdoor adventure is one of my biggest passions in life and Denver offers quick access to some of my favorite outdoor areas in the state. Additionally, when I’m exploring outside of the state, living 30 minutes from a major airport allows for smooth national or international traveling.
Denver is also known for a diverse range of cultural cuisine and unique dining experiences. From award-winning restaurants and trendy food halls to international cuisines and farm-to-table experiences, Denver serves up new culinary adventures that I have never experienced while growing up outside the city.
One of my favorite things about living in Denver is the accessibility to attend live sporting events. For someone who loves sports and competition, I really enjoy experiencing the electric atmosphere inside a stadium while rooting for my favorite teams. Sports have a unique ability to bring a community together because we all have something in common. Being a fan means we’re all emphatically supporting something bigger than ourselves. So as a result, living in a city that has teams in all 5 major sports leagues has been an immersive competitive experience.
Denver’s dynamic blend of city living, and outdoor beauty creates an experience that seamlessly combines the best of Colorado. If it sounds like I’m trying to sell you, it’s because I had to convince myself to make this change and to show myself that I am brave enough to explore a new path. I’ll always be sentimental for where my journey started but so far, stepping out of line has been a remarkable experience and I’m pushing myself to embrace the undiscovered.
