UV laser processes leave behind virtually no carbon residue. This is a function of the power density of the frequency tripled NdYag laser. Rather than melting, as a CO2 laser does, UV lasers vaporize the polyimide/ Kapton material resulting in very tiny particles that are removed by the laser table’s vacuum system. Additionally, the beam size is a key feature of the UV laser cutting system. At less than 20 microns, not only can we cut the most intricate of patterns, we can do so without affecting the surrounding material or components on the material. Therefore, our customers can save on material by decreasing spacing and can, also, populate boards closer to the edge of the circuit.
Material savings is only one of many benefits when comparing laser cutting to die cut and stamped alternatives. Our laser cutting system achieves much tighter tolerances (+/- 12 microns), therefore our fallout rate is virtually zero. Lasers do not get dull over time and do not require the replacement of hard tooling, which can become very expensive and cause regular process delays. Lastly, design changes are CAD driven and can be implemented instantly, allowing seamless transition as your processes improve and adjust over time.
